Indeed, it was revealed that just a few miles away from her home in Leeds, two-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer Oliver Dockerty had been turned down for funding for an operation which could allow him to walk. Angry members of the public have even created an online petition demanding that Josie pay the money that was spent on her surgery back to the state. Despite her tomboyish tendencies, she dreamed of becoming a model from the tender age of eight or nine. But at 13 she began to be taunted by school bullies about her appearance, shattering her confidence.

The year-old claims she is so hated following publicity about her breast operation that she cannot use public transport to take her two young children to and from school. She told her GP that the stress was giving her anxiety attacks and that her children, aged six and three, were missing school and nursery as a result. Leeds City Council has reportedly now accepted an application for free school taxi trips on health grounds. They can pay for it. Her operation was carried out by the same NHS trust that had refused to fund surgery that would have enabled a two-year-old girl with a form of cerebral palsy to walk. Then she tried to placate public opinion by promising to pay back the cash. Since last month, Miss Cunningham and her children have been driven two-and-a-half miles to and from the local school, twice a day.

Josie told her GP her eldest son, six, was not going to school and her youngest, aged three, was missing nursery because she could not face travelling by public transport. Her doctor submitted a summary of her health concerns to cash-strapped Leeds City Council, which accepted her application for free taxi rides on the back of it. Since May, Josie and her two kids have been picked up from their home and driven the two-and-a-half miles to primary school. Josie then drops her eldest off at the gates before being driven back home. The journey is repeated later in the day when school finishes. Taxpayers have also funded free Botox and dental care for Josie, who also tried for a nose job. Neighbours on her estate yesterday vented their fury while Josie spent the day with her kids at Legoland in Windsor, Berks. I drive my kids to school.

I was privately tutored at home, but it meant that my GCSE coursework suffered. She enjoyed the Navy, but left when she and her former boyfriend, a business negotiator whom she prefers not to name, decided to start a family.

It caused a whole lot of problems. Her self-esteem was further eroded when, she says, another boyfriend was violent towards her. She shows me a scar on her left arm where she says he stabbed her. Listening to Josie, there can be little doubt that her personal life has been dysfunctional and often unhappy — but most people would surely question whether she is right to fixate on her breast size as the explanation for everything that has gone wrong.

She, however, is adamant this is the root of all her woes. From the moment I woke up, all I would think about is how I could get breast surgery. They found that I was psychologically stable, but on the edge of depression. So it was him, not me, who suggested 36DD and I went along with it. It was a rushed decision. Unrepentant: Josie sees no problem with the fact the taxpayer has funded her boob job. And, rather naively, she says she was unprepared for the backlash this would provoke. I felt like now I could have a good life with my children and at last I could be a good mum.

But I had no idea the outrage it would cause. When the inevitable offer of a topless shoot in a tabloid newspaper arrived, she jumped at the chance of fulfilling a lifelong dream. This is what I wanted to do. Two fingers up to my ex-partners, too. I felt like a proper woman for the first time. Critics will say it was also a big two fingers up to the taxpaying public. But Josie remains convinced that her surgery was as worthwhile as any other.

Big Brother would be really cool. I just want to look in the mirror and not feel ugly. Indeed, she claims she has been approved for another cosmetic operation on the NHS, apparently unrelated to her breasts, the details of which she refuses to divulge. I cried with happiness. But I suppose I do have quite a few. Indeed, Josie would like nothing better than to settle down and marry. She has recently been in a relationship with — surprise surprise — a footballer. Again, she prefers not to name him.
